Breast tumors are tested to see if they are estrogen receptor (ER) and/or progesterone receptor (PR) positive or negative. Hormone receptor tests are both prognostic and predictive. In general, tumors that are ER and/or PR are slightly slower growing and have a slightly better prognosis than tumors that aren’t. Hormone receptors also provide information about treatment options. If your tumor is ER and/or PR , then your cancer can be treated with a hormone therapy. For this reason, these tumors are also sometimes referred to as “hormone sensitive.” Hormone therapies slow or stop cancer's growth by changing the hormonal milieu. For early stage cancer, these treatments include tamoxifen and a class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors or AIs. Hormones are substances that function as chemical messengers in the body. They affect the actions of cells and tissues at various locations in the body, often reaching their targets through the bloodstream. The hormones estrogen and progesterone are produced by the ovaries in premenopausal women and by some other tissues, including fat and skin, in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women and men. Estrogen promotes the development and maintenance of female sex characteristics and the growth of long bones. Progesterone plays a role in the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Estrogen and progesterone also promote the growth of some breast cancers, which are called hormone-sensitive (or hormone-dependent) breast cancers. Hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells contain proteins called hormone receptors that become activated when hormones bind to them.

Тамоксифен Tamoxifen. Групповая принадлежность. Противоопухолевое средство, антиэстроген. Описание действующего вещества МНН. Тамоксифен. Лекарственная форма. Nov 13, 2018. How SERMs such as tamoxifen and raloxifene and SERM/SERD hybrid SSH agents can have both antagonist and agonist actions on the ER. Tamoxifen received an overall rating of 6 out of 10 stars from 9 reviews. See what others have said about Tamoxifen, including the effectiveness, ease of use and side effects.

Tamoxifen won't work on hormone-receptor-negative breast cancer. Tamoxifen is available in two forms: a pill taken once a day (brand name: Nolvadex) or a liquid form (brand name: Soltamox). If you dislike pills or you're having trouble swallowing tamoxifen pills, Soltamox can help make it easier to stay on your treatment plan. Most doctors recommend taking tamoxifen at the same time each day. — while you are taking tamoxifen and for 2 months afterward. You should not take tamoxifen if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or if there is any chance that you could be pregnant. You should use an effective non-hormonal type of birth control — such as condoms, a diaphragm along with spermicide, or a non-hormonal I. Ask your doctor which type of non-hormonal birth control would be best for you. Since its approval in 1998, tamoxifen has been used to treat millions of women and men diagnosed with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. While an aromatase inhibitor is the first hormonal therapy medicine choice for postmenopausal women, tamoxifen is the first choice for premenopausal women and is still a good choice for postmenopausal women who can't take an aromatase inhibitor. Selective estrogen receptor modulators, called SERMs for short, block the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue. SERMs work by sitting in the estrogen receptors in breast cells. If a SERM is in the estrogen receptor, there is no room for estrogen and it can't attach to the cell. If estrogen isn't attached to a breast cell, the cell doesn't receive estrogen's signals to grow and multiply. Cells in other tissues in the body, such as bones and the uterus, also have estrogen receptors. But each estrogen receptor has a slightly different structure, depending on the kind of cell it is in. So breast cell estrogen receptors are different from bone cell estrogen receptors and both of those estrogen receptors are different from uterine estrogen receptors.

Anyone got any experience of losing their hair while on Tamoxifen? Went through all treatments last year & got a lovely head of curls back post treatment. Apparently one of the possible side effects of Tamoxifen is thinning of the hair. In the last week I've lost lots of hair in patches, from the back of my head only (thank God). After recent very successful re-con I think I relaxed for the first time since I was diagnosis & that's when the hair loss began. I asked my doctor about this when I had been on Tamoxifen for 3 months and he reckoned that if I hadn't had any hair loss at that stage that I wouldn't have that side effect at all. I am no longer losing hair but have bald patches at the back of my head. So far so good 6 months into Tamoxifen as far as my hair is concerned. Luckily I can cover over with other hair at the moment. I have a hot flush about every hour and terrible cramps in my feet and legs at night. A magnesium supplement seems to be keeping the cramps more or less at bay but nights are tough in general. I did see in another forum that hair problems can be related to thyroid imbalances so you might want to have that checked too if the problem continues. Mine is enlarged, though I am not sure what that could mean yet Hugs Kathleen Thanks Kathleen, I do have under active Thyroid so I might go and get that checked, you've reminded me of when I first got diagnosed with this (about 12yrs ago) I'd a lot of symptoms one of which was I lost a lot of hair from my eyebrows.
