    May 28, 2009 After a week of the above combination the horrible itching stopped. I still use the three in combination and have not had the itching with this round of plaquinil. Ask your Dr. is my main advice, keep using the lotions that help and know that the itching can be controled. Hopefully eventually to stop! AndiLee did you stop the plaquenil and did it help? I am having the exact same issue with the itching especially after a shower. I have been off for 3 days and the itching hasn't improved yet. For what it's worth, I've been taking generic plaquenil for about 5 years now. Early on, I had an itchy rash break out on my forearms, and my doctor had me stop the plaquenil. Within 4 days, my joint pain returned with a vengance, and I was begging for the plaquenil, itchy rash and all, lol. Over the ensuing years, I've had occasional rashes.

    Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine.

  5. With the presistent spread of this hivey rash it sure makes it hard to believe that you will be able to continue the drug. The one thing that might help solve the problem is to stop the plaquenil. If you stop and the rash goes away in a logical period of time and then restart the drug only to have the rash come back. Bingo--you will know.
