My doctor reccomended that I eat 100 calories at least prior to taking Plaquenil and Naproxen. I was prett nauseous the frist 2 weeks on these meds, but over time it diminished. After just 4 days on Plaquenil, I had severe stomach cramps, no appetite, GERD pain, diarrhea and a migraine. Not sure that the migraine was related but it happened on day 4. After contacting my Rheumatologist, I was told to stop taking the drug. When I asked what other drug I could try, he said nothing -no medicine.

Twice a day, every day. Missing one dose wont make a major difference but skipping more then one, or days absolutely can. My stomach symptoms were so nasty that I already suspected IBS or even Crohn's or something equally horrible My GP put me on probiotics in May/June because of the symptoms. They helped pretty well without them I wouldn't have been able to go anywhere ever so I continued with them and only stopped them AFTER stopping Plaquenil and realizing my stomach wasn't acting up anymore.

Taking Plaquenil for Various Conditions and Treatment Tips For treating lupus in adults, the recommended starting Plaquenil dosage is 400 mg once or twice a day. After a while, your healthcare provider may recommend a lower dosage such as 200 mg once daily.
